Under the auspices of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Al-Nahrain University, and with the direct supervision and proposal of the Head of the Department of Architectural Engineering, Al-Nahrain University, and in recognition of the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their status as key learning outcomes that contribute to the Department of Architectural Engineering's inclusion in global rankings, particularly the Times Higher Education and QS World University Rankings, and in order to ensure sustainability is achievable, the Department of Architectural Engineering, Al-Nahrain University, adopted the inclusion of achieving these goals within the graduation project and thesis for fifth-year students. This is unprecedented in local architectural departments. After a full year of effort by the students, supervising professors, and examiners, a table was created outlining the practical attempts and contributions that each student/project aimed to make towards the 17 global goals.

This experience included (46) graduation projects, and the applications that achieve sustainability goals varied across all goals, but they focused on goals number (11, 4, 8, 3, 9, 7). This experience is an important step to develop architectural curricula, keep pace with progress in the field of architecture, and evaluate the trends and goals of subsequent graduation projects.
