As
part of the scientific activities of the Department of Artificial Intelligence
and Robotics Engineering, a awareness workshop titled “Together for an
Environment that Preserves Women’s Dignity: No to Violence Against Women” was
held on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at the College of Engineering – Al-Nahrain University
and was presented by Assistant Lecturer Nawras Hussein Abdullah. This
event was organized in collaboration with the Women’s Affairs Unit and the
Psychological Counseling Unit at the College of Engineering, emphasizing
institutional integration in supporting humanitarian and social causes within
the academic community. The
workshop witnessed wide participation from the department’s faculty members and
students, in addition to guests from the College of Engineering’s
administration, who stressed the importance of academic engagement in raising
societal awareness regarding women’s issues and rights, and the necessity of
integrating such topics into educational curricula and student activities. The
workshop discussed various forms of violence against women—physical,
psychological, domestic, economic, sexual, and societal—explaining their
manifestations, causes, and destructive impacts on individuals, families, and
society. It also highlighted relevant international legal frameworks, including
the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Convention on the Elimination of
All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), and UN Security Council
resolutions related to women, peace, and security, shedding light on their role
in protecting women’s rights and promoting social justice. The
presenter also reviewed alarming UN statistics indicating that one in every
three women worldwide is subjected to some form of violence during her lifetime,
reflecting the magnitude of this global challenge and the urgent need to
intensify efforts to combat all its forms.
At
the conclusion of the event, attendees praised the importance and relevance of
the topic, and the workshop concluded with a set of recommendations calling for
enhanced academic, social, and educational efforts to combat violence against
women and promote an environment that respects women’s rights and guarantees
them a safe and dignified life, contributing to the development of an aware and
just society grounded in humanitarian values.
