Within the scientific activities of the Department of Computer Engineering

The department held a scientific symposium entitled

The Dangers of the Internet on Society

On Monday 9/12/2024 in the Tigris Hall at the College of Engineering, Nahrain University

The symposium included a number of lectures given by

1- Lecturers from the Community Police

2- Asst. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mohsen Hassoun Jawad Al-Abbadi

Assistant Professor at the University of Karbala - College of Computer Science

and Information Technology

3- Dr. Hamid Shamal Musahb

Director General of the Center for Research and Information Technology

and Communications at the Scientific Research Authority

The symposium included the dangers of the Internet, which represents a powerful tool for communication and knowledge, except for the dangers that affect society, most notably: cybercrimes, the spread of misleading information, psychological and social impact, electronic addiction, and exposure to inappropriate content. In order to reduce these risks, digital awareness must be enhanced, legislation must be developed to protect users, and the role of the family and educational institutions must be played in guiding individuals towards using the Internet in a safe and responsible manner.

The seminar was attended by the Assistant Dean of the College of Engineering for Scientific Affairs and the Assistant Dean of the College of Engineering for Financial and Administrative Affairs, in addition to a number of lecturers from the department and other departments and university members. It also included discussions and inquiries from members of the community police team about how to report various cases of blackmail and how to protect oneself if one is exposed to such a situation.
